There’s something wonderfully invigorating about this time of year! The air and apples are crisper.  Pumpkin Spice flavors delight us. The trees turn vibrant golden yellow and rich red against the deep blue autumn sky. Farmer’s harvests fill the air with scents and sounds of Fall. We look forward to receiving more treats than tricks. The days become shorter. We clean up our gardens. Put away the tools. Prepare for brisk nights and mornings. It is a time of change.

Autumn is one of our most colorful seasons. It’s always a reflection on the beauty that can come from letting go.  The first Friday of October is also World Smile Day.   A smile can be one of the easiest ways to bring some beauty into the world. It doesn’t cost you a cent to share one.

I invite you to come into the library and check out the materials that may give you reason to smile, or create a smile in your own or someone else’s life. Find a good children’s book. Enjoy it yourself or share it with a child. Enjoy our outdoor story walk.  Check out a cookbook. Try a new recipe. Find a travel guide and imagine seeing the world. Find a great novel – adult or young adult – and be delighted with the twists and turns of  the plot. Check out some of our music CDs. Find a movie you and the family can enjoy together. Find a book that can help you on your personal journey to grow and improve. Attend one of our many different programs. Go ahead and start planning next year’s garden. Get your daffodil and tulip bulbs planted…because before you know it, Spring will be here once again. (Admit it you just smiled thinking about it!)

As always, we appreciate your support and patronage of The Andover Public Library.  Here’s hoping that this is a season where you can enjoy the changing colors, and while you’re at it, share a smile or two with someone else.

Sincerely,

Nancy Logan, Director
