The secret is out: your public library is one of the best deals out there!

Last month, The Wall Street Journal posted a podcast The Money-Saving Power of Your Library CardTwo weeks later, they ran a column about how to save money for people who subscribe to and pay for digital services whose costs keep creeping up. One piece of advice? Find out what’s available for free at your local library.

The Andover Public Library has plenty of free resources available for you. Like the feeling of holding and turning the pages of a book? Our shelves are lined with thousands of them. Can’t find what you want? Look at our CLEVNET electronic card catalog where you can find over 12 million books and DVDs. Check out the reading ap Libby to borrow eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines. Looking to stream movies and music? Go to Hoopla. You can find what you’re looking for from the comfort of your living room.

If you’re a lifelong learner or need to learn new, or update and sharpen your workplace skills, check out LinkedIn Learning. Here you’ll find thousands of online courses designed so you can learn in-demand skills from real-world industry experts – at your own pace.

It’s easy to understand why former First Lady Laura Bush said, “the most valuable thing in my wallet is my library card.”

As we begin the month of May, we are beginning Older Americans Month. I love the theme for this year’s month-long celebration: Aging Unbound.   Here are a couple of books you might enjoy:

This is such a pretty time of year. I hope you can enjoy the spring beauty that will soon surround you. Stop on in! Enjoy one of our upcoming programs. Check out a book. Let us show you how to access all the library resources available to you.

And don’t forget, starting Monday, May 22nd  we begin sign-ups for our summer reading program.  We have a fantastic lineup of programs, crafts, and reading challenges for all ages. You must be registered to win prizes or participate in our big end-of-summer-reading parties.

As always, on behalf of the entire Andover Public Library team, thanks for your on-going support. We look forward to seeing you around.

Sincerely,

Nancy Logan, Director
