Win a $10 Gas Card
Search the non-fiction shelves at the library for a certain book. Each month, a new Dewey Decimal Classification number will be posted. When found, participants are asked to write down the title and their contact information on a slip provided. At the end of the month, a drawing will be help from those slips and the winner will receive a $10 gas card, paid for by the Friends of the Andover Public Library. One entry per month per person. The program is for adults ages 18 and older.
“Come in and enjoy a mini scavenger hunt for our Dewey Decimal book of the month.” says Nancy Logan, Director, “We hope the community has fun with this new program and gains new knowledge at the same time.”
The Dewey Decimal classification system is widely used by both public and school libraries. The system was invented by the American librarian, Melvil Dewey in 1876. Dewey is known as the “Father of Modern Librarianship” dedicating much of his career to reforming the library systems of his time. The Dewey Decimal Classification system is used to categorize non-fiction books into ten main subject groups. The categories range from 000 to 999 and make it easier for people to find books on a certain topic all in one location.

Everyone with a library card has access to resources from libraries in the CLEVNET system.”, says Maria Firkaly, Community Relations Coordinator., “We are talking about 45 library systems across 12 different counties with 12 million items and approximately 1 million customers in Northeast Ohio. CLEVNET allows you access to the vast collections of every participating library. One of the best resources available, in my opinion, is our experienced and knowledgeable library staff. We are always available to help with research projects.”
