It was like being a kid in a candy store! There were free books, authors, illustrators, and publishers galore.\u00a0\u00a0I brought back over 100 books, many of which will be published later this year. I had the chance to hear award-winning authors talk about their writing process and their upcoming books. I met other librarians from across the United States. I learned how they were serving their patrons and I picked their minds for ideas.\u00a0\u00a0It was an invigorating few days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">I love the fact that libraries are a place where everyone can come to read, learn, and grow. I am inspired by how many of you come to enjoy and discover all the good reads and programs that The Andover Public Library has to offer. This year we had a great turnout for our Summer Reading Program. One hundred six (106) reading logs were turned in indicating over fifteen hundred (1,500) hours of reading during the 6 weeks of the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/search.clevnet.org\/client\/en_US\/andv-main\/search\/detailnonmodal\/ent:$002f$002fSD_ILS$002f0$002fSD_ILS:2066655\/one\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7632\" src=\"https:\/\/www.andover.lib.oh.us\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/241823._SY475_-180x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.andover.lib.oh.us\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/241823._SY475_-180x300.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.andover.lib.oh.us\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/241823._SY475_.jpg 285w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 90px) 100vw, 90px\" \/><\/a>In her acknowledgments in her best-selling book <a href=\"https:\/\/search.clevnet.org\/client\/en_US\/andv-main\/search\/detailnonmodal\/ent:$002f$002fSD_ILS$002f0$002fSD_ILS:2066655\/one\"><i>Women Who Run With The Wolves<\/i><\/a>, author Clarissa\u00a0<span class=\"x_SpellE\">Pinkola<\/span>\u00a0Estes, gives her \u201cprofound gratitude\u201d to her \u201cmost essential teachers: All librarians, the keepers of the trea\u00adsure rooms filled with all of humanity\u2019s sighs, sorrows, hopes and\u00a0<span class=\"x_SpellE\">happinesses<\/span>\u00a0\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">Best-selling author Mary\u00a0<span class=\"x_SpellE\">Pipher<\/span>\u00a0in her newest book\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/search.clevnet.org\/client\/en_US\/andv-main\/search\/detailnonmodal\/ent:$002f$002fSD_ILS$002f0$002fSD_ILS:8139823\/one\"><i>A Life In Light: Meditations on Impermanence<\/i><\/a>, recounts her love for her local library while she was a girl and how \u201creading lit a path into my future.\u201d She recalls her Aunt Margaret telling her, \u201c\u2026that many people only <a href=\"https:\/\/search.clevnet.org\/client\/en_US\/andv-main\/search\/detailnonmodal\/ent:$002f$002fSD_ILS$002f0$002fSD_ILS:8139823\/one\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7631\" src=\"https:\/\/www.andover.lib.oh.us\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/58532213-203x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"133\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.andover.lib.oh.us\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/58532213-203x300.jpg 203w, https:\/\/www.andover.lib.oh.us\/live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/58532213.jpg 271w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 90px) 100vw, 90px\" \/><\/a>know their friends and neighbors, but that readers are able to experience the lives of thousands of people from all times and places.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">She also writes that \u201c&#8230;reading became my way of understanding the world\u2026offered me hope, soothed me in difficult moments, and gave me a sense of the immense complexity of the human spirit.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000000;\">So, here\u2019s to the gift of reading and all the libraries which hold so many treasures. Make it a great rest of the summer.
