We went away to some cool location each summer, because my dad won the trip as part of a conference. (He was a Nationwide Insurance agent for most of my childhood.) I have a few core memories of that summer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">1. We rode horses on the Rockie Mountains. I was a horse crazy girl and had the time of my life. My mother was terrified. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">2. My sister Julie, who was a teen at the time, was being an absolute brat. I could not understand why she was so mean to our mother. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">3. My siblings and I were all a few floors up from the hotel lobby, which was open to the floors above it. We saw mom and yelled, &#8220;MOM! Mommy! Mother!&#8221; to no avail. My sister Mary finally yelled, &#8220;Claryne!&#8221;. She looked up when hearing her name.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">There were many\u00a0 &#8220;moms&#8221; in the crowded lobby, but only one Claryne. My wish for all moms on Mother&#8217;s day, is that the people in your life recognize that there is only one of you. You are special and more than just &#8220;mom&#8221;. (My mother hated Mother&#8217;s Day, by the way. She called it a Hallmark Holiday and said we should show our moms we love them every day.
