Ray Garner is a graduate student working towards his PhD in Astronomy. His main research interests are in the satellite system of M101, namely in the detection of those forming stars. This also extends to the physical conditions of the star forming regions and ionized gas in the outer disk of M101. Broadly, he is also interested in other satellite systems of nearby galaxies.

Ray earned his B.S. in Physics at Furman University. While there he completed research in general relativity regarding a particle with quantum mechanical spin spiraling down a wormhole. He also participated in a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Indiana University, Bloomington working on ionized gas kinematics of nearby low-mass galaxies.

This event is supported by the State Library of Ohio with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
